The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Reading: 2 Samuel 16:1-14 and 2 Samuel 19:18-30

It is now many years since David has blessed Mephibosheth and given him a seat at the king’s table. David has sinned with Bathsheba and repented but now faces the consequences of God’s judgement, as God allows Absalom to try and seize the kingdom for himself by force.

David becomes paranoid as his close friends and family are now his enemies. Exhausted he takes at face value the deceitful actions of Ziba, who David is unaware is in rebellion against his master Mephibosheth. Exhaustion and prayerlessness play there part in bad choices made by King David.

Sermon Points:
A: Ziba – looks good
B: Shimei – behaving badly
C: Mephibosheth – looking ugly and unkempt
