Reading: Luke 7:1-17
Key Verse: Luke 7:7b-8
But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, “Go”, and he goes; and that one, “Come”, and he comes. I say to my servant, “Do this”, and he does it.’
Jesus has just finished the sermon on the plain. Dr Luke next records for us two miracles. The healing of a dying servant of a rich, powerful, but caring, humble, god fearing, gentile man with great faith in Jesus. Then later how Jesus had compassion on a poor powerless Jewish widow woman raising her son back to life.
Today we will look at the first of these two encounters. The Centurion came humbly but in complete faith recognising Jesus’ authority, he knew that just the Word of Jesus was needed to heal his servant.
The presence of faith and the power of Jesus form an explosive relationship
