Key Verse: Luke 13:15-16
The Lord answered him, ‘You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?’
The teaching part of Jesus ministry was acceptable on the sabbath day for the synagogue ruler but not healing. Having tried to obey God’s law in their own strength with an unchanged heart the Jews, and in particular the scribes and pharisees, had added man made rules to God’s law. Jesus behaviour showed he transcended their man made rules and that he had in himself authority.
Are we making up our own rules and get angry when folk break them? What are our hang-ups?
