Return and Resurrection

The hitchhikers guide to life, death and everything after

Reading: Mark 13:21-37 and 1 Thessalonians 4:1-18

Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Christianity is not about escaping but rather about renewing. Sin came into the world and corrupted that which previously had been perfect. Upon Jesus return sinners and everything related to sin will be destroyed in fire and banished as God re-creates a new heaven and new earth.

Unlike when Jesus became incarnate and live as lowly humble servant, on his second coming return to this earth, Jesus will display his full majesty. Do not gamble with your lives, there is much more to come after death.

Sermon Points:

1: Jesus’ return is sure
2: Jesus’ return will be sudden

3: Jesus’ return will be seen
4: Jesus’ return is sought after

The rich man and Lazarus

The hitchhikers guide to life, death and everything after

Reading: Luke 16:19-31

Key Verse: Luke 16:31
He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead’

This passage deals with the big question of what happens to us when we die? When we look and understand the end of life, then the rest of the life makes sense. The passage touches on eternity and eternal punishment and eternal life.

If life is all there is, then to look after yourself first and foremost, to live like the rich man, makes sense. But suffering and putting others first only makes sense when we have the eternal perspective.

How we live matters, what we do with our assets shows what we truly believe. Do we use our wealth with eternity in mind?

Sermon Points:
A: Wealth v19-22
B: World to come v23-26
1: Retain consciousness
2: Certain
C: Word v27-31

Keep on keeping on.

Keep on keeping on

This year’s Woman for Mission Away Day will be held in Perth on Saturday 20th September. As the number of places is limited, it would be a good idea if those who would like to go could book in the next 2 weeks.

The theme this year is Keeping on going.

The main speaker is Mrs Olwen Ford of Coatbridge.

This is a biannual event and quite a number of Rosskeen ladies who have been on the Day Away in the past have thoroughly enjoyed it. Dorothy Hannan is organising a block booking, so if you would like to go, you are welcome to give you her your name and conference fee (£20 which includes lunch and morning/afternoon tea) by 15th June. There is not a bus running this time, but the conference centre is only a few minutes walk from Perth railway station. We could sort out travel arrangements later on.
