Wealth and Worry

Rosskeen Free Church Sermons

Reading: Luke 12:13-34

Key Verse:  Luke 12:20-21

‘But God said to him, “You fool!
This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?”
‘This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich towards God.

Wealth or the lack of it both have dangers. The wealthy are tempted to trust in their wealth for their security, while the poor worry about making ends meet.

Jesus instructs wealthy who are tempted to ignore God and trust in their wealth for security, not be foolish but be generous and store up treasure in heaven, while those who are poor in this world’s goods are to trust in God’s goodness and know that nothing escapes his knowledge

The Burning Bush

exodus_banner_2

Reading: Exodus 3:1-22

Key Verse: Exodus 3:15
God also said to Moses, ‘Say to the Israelites, “The LORD, the God of your fathers – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob – has sent me to you.”
‘This is my name for ever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation.

The book of Exodus is basically split into two halves. The actual exodus from Egypt and then the creation of the tabernacle in all its details. The Tabernacle, visualises God coming to dwell with his people. For the first time since Eden God comes to live with his people – but there are still barriers.

Exodus is a picture of what Jesus is going to do spiritual, but rather than being set free from physically slaved, and a physically tabernacle Jesus sets free from sin and death, and comes via the Holy Spirit to live directly in our lives.

God reveals himself in the fire, proclaiming He is YHWH (Yahweh) “I AM”
