Faith and works

Rosskeen Free Church Sermons

Reading: Matthew 25:31-46 and James 2:14-26

Key Verse: James 2:18-19 But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.

Society in general sees faith as a private belief that should not show itself in public in the way you act. However true Christian faith is not a belief divorced from actions, but is the cause which results in Christian action.

God’s work for us and through us does not stop when He saves us from the coming judgement, but He has also prepared good works for us to do. These will show themselves naturally in the life of the Christian, and be an evidence to onlookers of the reality of our Christian faith. Someone cannot have faith without works. They can claim to have faith without works but it is not true faith.

These works will be those motivated by love, and be expressions of love to others and especially to the Christian family – our Christian bothers and sisters.
