The true bread from Heaven

Rosskeen Free Church Sermons

Reading: John 6:1-15, 25-71

Key Verse: John 6:27-29
Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

Literally thousands of people could be called upon to verify that what all four gospel writers recorded was accurate.

This miracle was a gospel sign which pointed, like the previous Old Testament signs, to Jesus. In this instance Jesus being the very substance of life that would provide real eternal satisfaction to the deep desires of our hearts. But we could only experience this if Jesus was to be our substitute and die for our sins instead of us dying, like the Passover lamb died in place of the eldest child in Egypt.

Sermon Points:
A: Jesus is God’s provision for the world
B: Jesus is the bread that satisfies
C: Jesus is God’s way

The Enemy Within

Rosskeen Free Church Sermons

Reading: Joshua 7:1-26

Key Verse: Joshua 7: 11
Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions.

The citizens of Tory where unaware of the soldiers inside the Trojan horse left by the enemy forces. This is like sin; the enemy within. Sometimes like the citizens of Tory we are totally unaware of its presence in our lives.

God does not trivialize sin. All sin will be punished. This is good news, since God ultimately will see to it that absolute justice will be done. But this is also bad news for us personally since we will be punished for our sin, unless someone is punished in our place. God’s remedy for sin is substitution. God in the person of Jesus took our punishment on the cross.

Sermon Points:
A: Reality of Sin
B: Seriousness of Sin
C: Remedy for Sin
